$20m funding package to help SA businesses purchase equipment to lower power bills

SA businesses will soon be able to apply for a portion of $20m in funding to help pay for energy-saving equipment. See who’s eligible, how much you could get, and when to apply.

South Australian business owners will soon have access to $20m in grants to help reduce their power bills.

Small and medium sized businesses can make an application later this month for grants of up to $75,000 to purchase energy-efficient equipment.

Eligible businesses and not-for-profits with up to 199 employees will have their investments, such as solar panels and batteries, matched dollar for dollar by the state government.

It is the first time the funding had been extended to medium sized businesses.

Family and Small Businesses Minister Andrea Michaels said “power bills are a particular pain point for businesses”.

“This grant is providing real relief where it is needed,” Ms Michaels said.

The grants are being funded under the state government’s $154m business growth fund.

The previous round of funding gave more than 1000 businesses across the state a share of about $24m in grants.

Port Noarlunga restaurant Noori on the Midcoast received a grant for a battery and kitchen upgrades in that funding round.

The business now saves more than $1500 on their power bill.

The top three industries to receive those grants were retail, hospitality and accommodation and manufacturing.

The most popular equipment installed was battery and solar systems.
