Skye Lavelle teaches digital art basics in six-week course at The Array

A born and raised NT artist will lead budding and veteran designers through a six-week course for digital art.

Bachelor of Arts (Honours) graduate Skye Lavelle is already making waves in the world of digital art education as a teacher for The Array's new Digital Art Fundamentals Course.

A renowned artist is taking the next step in her career by teaching digital art fundamentals to budding and veteran artists in the Northern Territory.

Skye Lavelle – who designed the logo and mascot for TROPiCON 2022 – has taken on a teaching role for The Array’s six-week course as of Monday.

The Charles Darwim University Arts graduate said she was passionate about helping young people develop their interest in art and its role in game design.

“Art plays a crucial role in storytelling and immersion in video games,” Ms Lavelle said.

“I think more investment in this sector can lead to exciting and creative opportunities for Territorians – we are a very tight-knit community and I love being a part of that.”

Ms Lavelle said the course would focus on colour theory, form, lighting, anatomy, perspective, and composition.

“I’ll be teaching skills that can be applied across digital and traditional mediums.”

Ms Lavelle previously used her Honours thesis to explore queer identities and self-expression in different media.

“I think representing diverse perspectives is so important because growing up in such a multicultural place like Darwin really allowed me to see the beauty in everyone’s unique identity,” she said.
