Incoming SA health minister Stephen Wade releases confidential RAH report

HEALTH boss Vickie Kaminski will leave her high-paid role in November after the new Liberal Government revealed it wanted to begin looking for someone to replace her.

In an email to SA Health staff on Monday afternoon, seen by The Advertiser, Ms Kaminski says her contract was due to expire in about 18 months and Premier Steven Marshall had “decided to initiate a process to determine my successor”.

“In my discussions with the Premier I agreed to provide working notice until the end of November,” writes the Canadian who was brought in to oversee the former Labor Government’s Transforming Health project.

“That should allow for recruitment to be completed and the new chief executive to be installed.”

A spokeswoman for Mr Marshall confirmed that he met with Ms Kaminski on Monday morning and “made it clear that the government would be seeking a change to the long term leadership of SA Health”.

The spokeswoman said they discussed the option for Ms Kaminski to continue in a different role “but she indicated that her preference would be to return to Canada”.

Ms Kaminski, who will leave behind a $551,000-plus a year salary package, said the new Premier and State Government “have been assessing what they need for the next four years in terms of leadership across various departments”.

“I will facilitate a smooth transition for whomever is given the opportunity to work with all of you and accomplish the health agenda for South Australia,” she writes.

Speculation had been rife about Ms Kaminski’s future following the sacking of four other department chiefs by the incoming Liberal Government.

The Advertiser forecast in Saturday’s Off the Record column that she would be replaced by Chris McGowan, chief executive officer of Silver Chain, an in-home health and aged-care specialist, and South Australia’s Royal District Nursing Service.
