SA Best has announced Kangaroo Island Wilderness Tour operator Paul Brown will run in the Barossa Valley seat of Schubert.
Mr Brown will take on Opposition frontbencher Stephan Knoll, who is dubbed a future Liberal Party leader.
Mr Brown’s candidacy takes SA Best’s candidate tally to 28.
On Tuesday, SA Best announced education consultant and former teacher James Sadler would take on Liberal education spokesman John Gardner in his seat of Morialta.
Mr Brown has pledged to buy a property in the electorate if he wins the seat and acknowledged there was a lot of work to be done in getting to know Schubert’s 20,000 electors.
“There is much to be done here and in coming days I will be talking with locals on the issues that need action,” he said.
“It has been a rusted-on Liberal seat for so long that nothing much has been done for them. With SA-Best, that’s about to change.”
The SA Best candidate’s sister lived at the now closed Oakden nursing home, and he said he was motivated to be an advocate for mental health reform.
“Mental health issues are only going to get worse with dementia causing more deaths than any other illness in Australia,” he said.
“Part of the solution is making more services available in the north, south and centrally as well as in rural areas.
“It is quite disturbing to find out there are only three psychiatrists based in regional SA compared to 200 in Adelaide.”
Schubert is held by the Liberals on a 12.4 per cent margin but SA Best is confident of at least severely reducing the margin.
