A $60 MILLION international school of “culinary excellence, hospitality and tourism” would feature on the old Royal Adelaide Hospital site under plans released by the Liberals.

The Advertiser revealed Opposition Leader Steven Marshall plans for a start-up business hub in heritage buildings on the site, led by SA’s first chief entrepreneur on Monday.

Mr Marshall later revealed he would shift the existing International Centre for Tourism, Hospitality and Food Studies from Regency Park to a new facility at the old RAH.

“Establishing a new school of culinary excellence adjacent to the city’s cultural and restaurant district will make Adelaide a beacon for local, national and international hospitality students,” he said.

“The old RAH site provides a once in a lifetime opportunity to deliver a truly great development that will drive South Australia’s future prosperity.”

“The location of the International School and our entrepreneurs’ hub will add enormous vibrancy to the East End. With our world class produce, wine and restaurants Adelaide is a natural home for a hospitality school of international renown.”

Mr Marshall said SA had slipped behind other states and was attracting just 3.7 per cent of the international students studying food and hospitality in Australia.

The new centre would accommodate 800 students per week when it opens, with plans to double that in five years.
