THE buyers of the Repatriation General Hospital site have until April 30 to negotiate their masterplan with the new Liberal Government.
The Labor Government signed a contract to sell the site to the Adelaide-based ACH Group, which has put forward a seven-year, $200 million redevelopment plan for the Daw Park site. The deadline for final government sign-off was extended before the state election to April 30. The Liberals had campaigned to reopen surgical theatres at the site and flagged compulsory acquisition of key assets if necessary.
The party had campaigned against the closure. A spokeswoman for ACH Group said it believed it had “met all the obligations outlined in the contract”.
“We look forward to continuing negotiations with the new Liberal Government,” she said.
The last Repat patients and staff moved out in early November, transferring to other health services and hospitals in the southern suburbs.
New Premier Steven Marshall has not put a figure on the cost of reopening the theatres, nor any potential compulsory acquisition of land or existing buildings.
It is understood the ACH masterplan features aged care, affordable housing and student accommodation.
