A $6 MILLION funding boost for 20 more nature play spaces in preschools and schools has been pledged by Labor if it is re-elected.
The first round of grants would be allocated to Brahma Lodge, Gilles Street and Ingle Farm East primary schools, Rose Park and Elizabeth Vale preschools and Port Augusta West Childhood Services. Others would be able to apply for funding.
Nature Play SA boss Sarah Sutter said nature spaces provided a variety of learning experiences, and the benefits were supported by research.
“These environments engage children in open-ended tasks. They are diverse and meaningful,” she said.

ducation Minister Susan Close said the scientific evidence “unequivocally shows that spending time in nature is good for all of us”, improving physical and mental health.
“But it’s particularly important for today’s generation of children who tend to spend more time indoors than previous generations,” she said.
