STEVEN Marshall’s refusal to do a deal with SA Best to form government has led to him falling out of favour with leading bookmakers.
Premier Jay Weatherill is Ladbrokes’ new tip to win the election and secure Labor a fifth term in power.
Mr Weatherill is currently the $2.20 favourite, leading Nick Xenophon’s SA Best ($2.70) and Steven Marshall’s Liberal Party ($3).
It’s a marked shift from just three weeks ago, where Mr Weatherill was the $3.60 underdog. The Premier is slightly longer odds with Sportsbet ($2.25) and TAB ($2.30), but is still favourite with all three bookmakers.
Both Ladbrokes and Sportsbet also agree that Nick Xenophon’s SA Best is likely to win enough seats to prevent either major party from governing in their own right.
They both list a hung parliament as $1.33 favourite, well in front of a majority government, which is $3 with Ladbrokes.
Although polling showed SA Best may struggle to win Morialta, where they had been considered a strong chance, Ladbrokes is still offering $1.90 odds for SA Best to win 11 seats or more.
