ALL Government spending over $250 would be declared on a publicly accessible website under an accountability push by the Australian Conservatives.
The party argues public disclosure of all spending, including that of departments, would ensure taxpayer money was spent carefully.
All expenditure over $250 would need to be posted on a central website within 30 days of purchase, with a receipt attached.
Australian Conservatives MP Dennis Hood said the website was a quick way to allow South Australians to know if their tax dollars were being spent wisely.
At present Government ministers and department chief executives must disclose their credit card and travel expenditure on separate department websites. Departments are not required to publicly disclose expenditure, such as the Environment Department’s $80,000 outlay on indoor pot plants for staff.
