Uber driver killer Tye Porter charged over alleged attack at Maryborough jail
A high-profile young prisoner, serving time for the robbery and killing of a Qld Uber driver, faces a new serious charge behind bars.
A young killer who is serving nine and a half years for the stabbing death of beloved Hervey Bay radio presenter and Uber driver Scott Cabrie faces a new violent charge.
Tye Wayne Porter was convicted of manslaughter, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, armed robbery and arson relating to the night of Mr Cabrie’s death on February 12, 2023.
At the time of the killing, Porter was just 18.
This publication can reveal Porter, now 21, has been charged with grievous bodily harm while behind bars.
According to court documents, Porter assaulted Henry James Gilbert at the Maryborough Correctional Centre at Aldershot on July 29.
The charge was mentioned in Maryborough Magistrates Court on December 8 and adjourned.
Mr Cabrie died after Porter and a 17-year-old accomplice planned to steal Mr Cabrie’s car.
When Mr Cabrie arrived to pick up the pair they were armed with a knife and a meat cleaver and forced him into the boot of his own car.
The then teenagers drove the vehicle to a boat ramp near Howard and stabbed Mr Cabrie in the chest and legs when he attempted to escape.
Porter and his friend dumped Mr Cabrie’s body before torching his car and their weapons.
Mr Cabrie’s body was found five days later after a search was conducted.
On October 4, 2024 Porter was sentenced to nine and a half years in prison but is eligible for parole after six years.
The younger teenager was sentenced to 15 years in jail but could be released on parole after serving 60 per cent of his sentence.
