Police charge young man with wounding after sword attack in Quilpie

A scuffle at a pub and a stolen hat led to an alleged attack with a samurai sword. Photos of the aftermath show the horror wounds suffered before the victim was airlifted to hospital.

A man suffered serious injuries after he was attacked by another man wielding a sword.

A young man is recovering in hospital after he suffered a grisly sword attack.

It is understood there was a disturbance at the Quilpie Pub late Sunday evening involving two men, aged 35 and 50.

During the shuffle a third man, aged 23, and a woman, intervened to break up the fight and the parties dispersed.

A short time later, about 9.30pm, the 23-year-old man and the woman attended an address in Jabiru Street where there was a second confrontation with the 50-year-old man and the 35-year-old man, allegedly over a stolen hat.

It was here that the older man is alleged to have armed himself with a sword and threatened multiple people.

Emergency services were called to the incident.

Police arrived to find several people standing in the street, before being approached by the 23-year-old man seeking assistance for treatment to a serious neck wound.

He had suffered multiple wounds to his neck, wrist and back, inflicted by a long bladed weapon.

The man was taken to Quilpie Hospital before being flown to Bundaberg Base Hospital Where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

A 35-year-old Quilpie man also alleged to be involved in the incident received injuries to his hand and back and was taken to Quilpie Hospital for treatment.

A 50-year-old Quilpie man has been charged with one count each of grievous bodily harm, wilful damage, wounding, acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm, and going armed as to cause fear.

He is due to appear in the Charleville Magistrates Court in May.
