A MAN aged in his 40s has been taken to hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg after an apparent accident last night.

Hunting trip goes wrong

A MAN shot in his leg in an apparent accident last night has been taken to hospital.

The Queensland Ambulance Service reported a man, aged in his 40s, was shot in the upper leg at a location near Charleville.

Paramedics treated the man for an "accidental gunshot wounding" on Adavale Rd when the incident was reported just before 7pm.

The man was taken to Charleville Hospital in a stable condition.

It is the second accidental shooting incident in the Darling Downs and wider region in the past week.

A man was accidentally shot in the abdomen by a friend on a hunting trip near Dalby last weekend, who police said was lucky to be alive.

The man was airlifted to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in a stable condition after the incident.

Country Patrol Group Inspector Danny Shaw, speaking in the days after the first shooting report, urged all residents to be extra careful when handling guns and firearms.

"It is just key that we reinforce that it's so important that people are careful with firearms, much like with vehicles," Insp. Shaw said.

"Make sure the weapon is always pointed in a safe direction (and) you don't have the weapon loaded until you intend to fire it.

"It's very lucky we haven't had a fatality."
