A Western Downs mechanic who stormed his girlfriend’s home in a meth-fuelled night of DV terror has himself burst into tears after avoiding a prolonged stay in jail for his home invasion.

Kennedy Francis Brown faced Gympie Magistrates Court by videolink Tuesday over his behaviour which left his victim cowering “terrified” under a blanket on her bed.

The court heard the Chances Plains’ man on May 23, 2025, at Chinchilla, carried out a “terrifying home invasion-style scenario” targeting his victim.

Brown first tried to call the woman 30 times then went to her home, the court heard.

Once there he kicked in her locked bedroom door while she was in bed and shattered a nearby mirror and took her mobile phone while she hid “fearful” under her blanket.

Brown’s lawyer told the court the 25-year-old had strong family support, with his parents and sister present at court during his sentencing and his employer holding his job until his release from custody.

The court heard he was “remorseful”, accepted his actions were “inexcusable” and had been trying to engage in domestic violence courses.

She said he had been in the midst of an 18 month-long meth addiction and flew into a “jealous rage” upon hearing claims another man had been in his victim’s house.

Magistrate Bevan Hughes noted Brown had “limited” criminal history but his actions involved an attack against “ vulnerable woman in her bedroom at home at night”.

“If she cannot feel or be safe there, where can she feel and be safe?” Mr Hughes said.

He accepted the 25-year-old’s guilty plea to entering a home at night, wilful damage, stealing, and breaching a domestic violence order, all domestic violence offences.

Brown burst into tears as Mr Hughes sentenced him to 14 months’ jail with immediate parole owing to 28 days already served in pre-sentence custody.

The 25-year-old was also ordered to pay his victim $500 in restitution for her damaged door.
