"No power or water": Brisbane's forgotten street

Queensland’s most famous brewery will roll out free slabs of beer to those hit hardest by ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred in a bid to lift spirits of those cleaning up the mess.

The XXXX brewery at Milton will deliver cases of XXXX Gold and bags of ice to people in metro Brisbane suburbs who have been without power for days.

The XXXX Can-Van will be leaving the gates of the Castlemaine Perkins brewery and hitting the streets of Brisbane, Ipswich, and the Redlands on Thursday, March 13, at 10am.

The van will be visiting Brisbane suburbs including Brookfield, Oxley, Corinda, and Rocklea, Ipswich suburbs including Laidley, Bundamba, and One Mile, as well as Redlands suburbs including Alexandra Hills, Capalaba, Chandler, and Sheldon.

After production recommenced on Sunday, the beer brand’s field sales director Pat Donohue said the XXXX Can-Van has been loaded up to deliver beers to the hardest-hit residents in southeast Queensland.

”XXXX has always been a great mate of the state, and when times are tough, we’ve been there to help,” Mr Donohue said.

“For over 145 years, XXXX has stood with Queenslanders through thick and thin, from helping those doing it tough, to building makeshift rafts to deliver beer during Queensland Floods.

Oxley residents pitch in for Alfred clean-up

“Having the XXXX Can-Van delivering supplies of XXXX Gold and ice is one way we can show the community we have their backs. We hope people who are helping with the recovery can enjoy a cold one on us over the next few days.”

Residents are encouraged to keep an eye out for the XXXX Can-Van and come forward to receive supplies while stocks last.

The offer is only available to people 18+ and the XXXX team will be checking IDs on the day.

Meanwhile, a craft beer brewery in Brisbane has offered Energex workers a classic pub feed and a beer on the house for their efforts to restore power to more than 300,000 southeast Queensland residents and business owners.

BrewDog, which has locations in the Fortitude Valley and at Murarrie, is offering all Energex staff a chicken parmigiana and a pint free of charge for their work to restore power following ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred.

“With over 300,000 Queenslanders that were without power over this last week, we know our Energex Workers have been out there, doing the hard yards to maintain and restore our power,” a BrewDog spokeswoman said.

“Energex Workers, we want to say thank you for looking after our community.

“All Energex staff can enjoy a parmy and a pint on us when you visit BrewDog in Murarrie or Fortitude Valley – we can’t thank you enough!”
