Dog rescued from tracks at Boondall

CCTV has captured the heart-stopping moment a small dog came within metres of an oncoming Brisbane train, triggering a swift rescue by Queensland Rail staff.

Heart-wrenching Queensland Rail CCTV footage captured the moment beloved pet “Snoopy” leapt onto train tracks on just after 8am Wednesday after escaping his owner near Boondall Station.

In the video, the pup can be seen running at top speed with his tongue dangling out of his mouth as he makes a dash for the platform where he climbs two flights of stairs and makes his way through the platform tunnel.

Shortly after evading a Queensland Rail staff member in high-vis vest, Snoopy is seen making a leap onto the tracks, heading for a stopped train as another train approaches.

The eagle-eyed driver of the approaching train immediately slowed down then stopped the train and, following all safety procedures, called for an authority from train control to get permission to enter the rail corridor.

A train guard is then seen exiting the halted train and entering the rail tracks to retrieve the wandering dog. Moments later the guard corners the pooch, grabs him and is able to hand him back to his concerned owner.

Queensland Rail Head of South East Queensland Neil Backer said both train crew and station staff acted quickly and safely to rescue the adventurous pup.

“Safety is our number one priority at Queensland Rail and we have strict procedures in place before our employees can enter the rail corridor,” Mr Backer said.

“We are pleased this was a happy ‘tail’ for Snoopy and we hope there’s some dog treats and a well-earned rest after this big adventure.

“We want to remind our customers that the rail network is not a safe place for pets to be so please leave them at home – unless of course you have a guide, hearing or assistance dog.”

Queensland Rail’s employees were praised by onlookers, with one saying on social media: “Thanks to the patience and professionalism of QR staff, all ended happily for the dog.”
