A search for two men aged in their 20s who went missing after reportedly jumping from Millaa Millaa Falls in Far North Queensland has come to a tragic end.

The two men went missing just before 9am on Tuesday at the popular Tablelands waterhole.

Two bodies have since been located in the water.

Emergency services initially responded to reports of men in their 20s missing at the falls, about 90km southwest of Cairns, about 8.55am.

It is understood three friends jumped into the water and when one did not surface, his friend went in to find him.

The friend, also a man, was later taken to hospital.

A rescue helicopter earlier joined the search, with police and Queensland Ambulance Service called to the scene.

“We’re being tasked to assist search and rescue for two people who’ve gone missing at the falls,” the spokeswoman said earlier.

“We’ve got four units responding. One of those is a search and rescue helicopter.

“A third male has been transported to hospital.”

Millaa Millaa Falls is one of the Far North’s most iconic waterfalls and a popular tourist attraction.
