An inquest into the disappearance and suspected death of a notorious bikie’s ex-girlfriend will examine the responses of police and other organisations to her disclosures of domestic violence.
Tina Louise Greer, 32, disappeared in January 2012 after leaving her Beechmont home in the Gold Coast hinterland to visit her volatile ex-boyfriend, notorious Finks bikie Les “Grumpy” Sharman.
Sharman was immediately declared a person of interest but refused to be interviewed by police and died in a road accident in 2018.
At a pre-inquest hearing today the Brisbane’s Coroner Court heard a catalogue of disturbing domestic violence incidents perpetrated on Ms Greer by Sharman, the last person to see her alive
Ms Greer met Sharman, 26 years her senior in 2008.
In 2010 Sharman swerved at her in a ute as she walked down the street and despite pulling away at the last minute Ms Greer was struck by the vehicle and thrown in the air.
Counsel assisting the coroner Stephanie Williams said three witnesses confirmed the account to police but it was met with denials by Ms Greer and Sharman.
Ms Greer told loved ones Sharman had shot a gun at her, broken her arm and locked her in an apartment.
After years of abuse Ms Greer appears to have made a determined effort to escape Sharman’s clutches.
In late 2011 she moved to a granny flat in Beechmont with daughter Lili, then a child, but whose recent advocacy has led to this inquest.
Sharman continued to menace Ms Greer, kicking in the door of her new home and threatening to “smash” Lili’s face when she ran to help her mother.
On January 18, 2012, Ms Greer told a friend she was going to Sharman’s to get her car, which had paint thinner poured over it by someone, repaired.
Ms Greer failed to contact her friend Lina Williams as agreed after making the two hour drive to Sharman’s property on Spicers Gap Rd near Boonah.
On January 20 Ms Williams, who still had not heard from Ms Greer, attended her Beechmont home but nobody was there.
The following day Sharman called Ms William’s flatmate and said Ms Greer had arrived at his on January 18 and left in her car the following morning. Ms Williams contacted police and filed a missing persons report.
Around the same time Ms Greer’s car was found in the car park at Governors Chair lookout at the end of Spicers Gap Rd containing her handbag and wallet.
Sharman refused to be interviewed by police and died in a car crash in December 2018.
Ms Williams said the inquest would also examine the response of Queensland Police and several other organisations to Ms Greer’s disclosure of domestic violence at the hands of Sharman.
Coroner Kerrie O’Callaghan set down the five day inquest for August 7.
