A luxury apartment building in Brisbane’s inner city was evacuated after a fire in a switch room on Wednesday evening.

A luxury apartment building in Brisbane’s inner city was evacuated after a fire in a switch room on Wednesday evening.

Residents were forced to evacuate the Luminare building in Newstead after reports of smoke issuing from level 21.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency spokesman said two crews have responded and located a fire on level 9 in a switch room just after 5pm.

“A small fire was located and put it out quite quickly,” a spokesman said.

Three crews at the scene of the Festival place apartment block conducted ventilation, while Queensland Ambulance Services were on standby but were not required.

Around 100 residents were seen standing outside in the rain.

It’s not yet know what caused the fire.
