A Sunshine Coast woman who died while on holiday in Thailand last week has been identified as mother-of-two Brooke Coates.
The Courier-Mail understands Ms Coates, a New Zealand citizen, was staying at Ao Nang Beach, a popular tourist destination in Krabi.
Ms Coates’ cause of death remains unknown, but a spokeswoman for the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade confirmed they were “providing assistance to the family of a New Zealander in Thailand”.
“For privacy reasons no further information will be provided,” the spokeswoman said.
Ms Coates posted updates of her trip on social media last week including happy snaps at the international airport and videos of her accommodation and long tail boat tours at Ao Nang Beach.
The young mother’s family and friends have since launched two separate GoFundMe’s following Ms Coates’ “sudden” death.
“Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the sudden loss of Brooke, my adored aunty, who was truly one of a kind,” Ms Coates’ niece Chelsea Bowden wrote.
“She had an unwavering presence and a zest for life.
“Her love and kindness left an unforgettable impact on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
“Brooke passed away unexpectedly leaving behind her two young children, Iylah, 7, and Jaxton, 3.
“As a mother, Brooke’s love and devotion were endless – her world revolved around her children. Her absence has left an unfillable void in the lives of those who loved her.”
Ms Bowden said the funds raised would be used to support Brooke’s children and their dad Matty.
“From everyday living costs to ensuring the children are cared for with the love and attention Brooke would have wanted, your generosity will provide essential support as they move forward.
“Brooke’s love, kindness, and generosity touched everyone she met. Her spirit and memory will live on through Iylah and Jaxton. While she will be deeply missed, we know she will continue to shine in their lives.”
A second GoFundMe created by Shannen Langcake revealed Ms Coates’ family were desperate to travel overseas and bring their “beloved Brooke” home.
Family and friends declined to comment on Ms Coates’ sudden death while investigations remain ongoing.
Krabi Tourist Police have been contacted for comment.
