Sprint sensation Gout Gout has shown that he can also move off the track with his own rendition of a viral dance.

Appearing on Fox Sports program ‘The Back Page’, the 17-year-old flawlessly performed his own version of The Griddy, a dance move in which a person alternatingly taps their heels, while swinging their arms back and forth.

In the clip, Gout can be seen getting up from his chair, before performing the dance in front of the ‘The Back Page’ panel all the way back to his seat.

The dance offers a brief glimpse into his personality, with Gout Gout only having limited exposure to the media to date as he makes a meteoric rise in Australian athletics.

His coach at Ipswich Grammar School Di Sheppard is very protective of the rising superstar and managing his expectations, despite having lofty goals.

‘The Back Page’ panellist and The Courier-Mail’s chief sports writer Robert ‘Crash’ Craddock believes Gout Gout’s Griddy said so much about him.

“He has a really relaxed, quietly confident nature combined with a little bit of showmanship,” he said.

“We’ve never had a guest dance on ‘The Back Page’ before, and it just struck us all how at peace he was with himself.

“While there’s that little bit of showmanship, he is a very, very humble lad.

“He is one of the most impressive guests we’ve ever had.”

The Ipswich-born sprinter is the latest Australian sports star to perform the dance in recent days, after Formula 1 driver Oscar Piastri briefly performed the dance following his victory in the Miami Grand Prix – his third consecutive Grand Prix victory on the trot - after a bet from NFL player Justin Jefferson.

Offering his opinion on which rising superstar performed the dance better, Mr Craddock said he felt that Gout Gout took the win.

“I think Gout’s Griddy was better than Oscar’s because it was fun and natural,” he said.

“I think Oscar did his with a sense of duty after promising to do so.

“I could imagine Gout doing it at home when no one is watching.”
