Two Queensland men were given prison sentences on Tuesday after the duo attempted to smuggle cocaine hidden inside a pair of sneakers into the Northern Territory last year.

Two Queensland men have been jailed in Darwin Supreme Court after attempting to smuggle more than 100g of cocaine into the Northern Territory inside a pair of sneakers last year.
The cocaine was discovered by Australian Border Force officers inside a pair of sneakers in a shoebox in an air cargo consignment from Peru on June 6, 2024.
Australian Federal Police officers seized the cocaine and replaced it with a substitute. AFP officers facilitated a controlled delivery to a parcel collection point in Darwin on June 12, 2024.
The two men were arrested by AFP officers the following day when they attempted to collect the parcel.
A 35-year-old man was on Tuesday sentenced to three years’ jail (suspended after 15 months) after pleading guilty to attempting to possess a marketable quantity of an unlawfully imported border-controlled drug.
A 36-year-old man was given 18 months’ jail after pleading guilty to aiding and abetting the attempt.
He was released on a 12-month suspended sentence, having already served six.
