Premier Steven Miles makes claim on LNP’s nuclear plans in response to reader question

Premier Steven Miles has made a shock claim about the LNP’s plans for nuclear power should Peter Dutton become Prime Minister in response to a Courier-Mail reader question.

Premier Steven Miles and David Crisafulli have responded to the latest reader question of the campaign.

The question came from Doug in Narangba regarding nuclear power.

“Why are you not open to nuclear power in the future instead of unreliable and expensive solar and wind?”

STEVEN MILES

“Narangba, that’s not far from my neck of the woods. We don’t support nuclear power because it’s the most expensive option and we can make solar and wind 24/7 with storage, particularly deep storage, pumped hydro.

“So our plan is the only plan that will deliver cheaper energy. What you saw yesterday was Peter Dutton say pretty clearly that he knew he could tell David Crisafulli to take nuclear energy.

“That’s what that press conference was all about. Him admitting that if Peter Dutton was the prime minister, he would not and could not stand up to him.”

DAVID CRISAFULLI

“We’ve put forward our plan, and it starts with a maintenance guarantee on our coal fired power plants. And what has transpired in the first week of the campaign is disturbing.

“We’ve had a minister in front of a federal court because of the mother of all cover ups. And I want Queenslanders to know, including you, that we have a vastly different approach to the current government, and it involves a maintenance guarantee to keep those power plants online and operating to their capacity and driving down people’s electricity.

“And we also have a plan to bring on affordable, reliable and sustainable renewables, and that involves not progressing Labor’s $24 billion thought bubble that is the pioneer Burdick and pumped hydro.

“And that’s a plan that Queenslanders can afford, and it’s a plan that will deliver immediate, medium term and long term relief.”
