Armed man in custody after standoff in Brisbane North

A man is in custody after police shut down streets and declared an emergency declaration in a suburb in Brisbane’s north this morning.

An emergency declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act was put in place at Bridgeman Downs just after 7.15am over reports of a man armed inside a house.

The PSPA has since been revoked, with police confirming a gel blaster has been found.

Police have revoked the emergency declaration made earlier at Bridgeman Downs.

About 9am, an unarmed man in a plain black T-shirt was walked down the driveway of a Bangelow St home by two police officers.

There have been no reports of any injuries or any shots fired.

An exclusion zone was established encompassing Trouts, Albany Creek, Beckett and Hamilton roads.

Residents within the exclusion zone are asked to stay indoors and members of the public and motorists to avoid the area.

Ross Walmsley, who lives behind a street swarmed by police, including heavily armed PSRT officers, said the street was “all blocked off”.

“So you just have to wait it out for a little while … I hope no one gets hurt,” he said.

“Apparently there’s an armed man … with a gun, so I guess they got to do what they got to do.”
