Parents of kids allegedly raped by Brisbane childcare worker told awful truth

The parents of the children allegedly raped and abused by a Brisbane childcare worker between 2007 and 2022 have all been contacted by police, the AFP says.

Child care worker charged with 1623 child abuse offences

The parents of the children allegedly raped and abused by a Brisbane childcare worker between 2007 and 2022 have all been contacted by police and informed of the allegations, the Australian Federal Police said.

AFP Assistant Commissioner Justine Gough said they are not prepared to identify the childcare centres involved, out of concern for the victims.

But she said investigators were confident the man had filmed all his victims and that all victims had been identified and the parents informed.

A 45-year-old Gold Coast childcare worker was arrested last August on charges of making child exploitation material, but a subsequent investigation revealed more than a decade of alleged horrific offending against young girls.

The man is now facing 1623 child abuse offences against 91 children, including 136 counts of rape and 110 counts of sexual intercourse with a child aged under 10.

The offending allegedly occurred at 10 childcare centres within the Brisbane City Council area, one in NSW and an early learning centre attached to a school overseas.

Investigations are continuing into the children allegedly abused at the international centre but a statement released by the AFP said investigators were confident all Australian victims were known.

“The AFP is also highly confident that all 87 Australian children who were recorded in the alleged child abuse material have been identified,” the statement said.

“The AFP believes the man recorded all his offending.”

The AFP is working alongside international authorities to identify the four children allegedly abused overseas.

“I can assure members of the Australian public that if you have not been contacted by law enforcement, it is extremely unlikely your child was allegedly offended against by the man,” Assistant Commissioner Gough said.

The Courier-Mail is prevented from naming the man because Queensland law currently protects the identity of accused rapists until they are committed to stand trial.
