An elite Queensland private school is investigating claims several students were injured by a fellow student with a diabetes needle during a cross country event.

Discussions about the incident last month have been circulating in online private school groups.

One group member claims her son was among 28 students “poked” by a classmate using a diabetes test kit needle at the sports event on April 28.

The member claimed the student found the test kit on a bus.

“This behaviour is very dangerous,” a post read.

The Courier-Mail understands a letter was emailed to senior school parents about the incident as investigations remain ongoing.

Redeemer Lutheran College, in Rochedale on Brisbane’s southside, has confirmed it was aware of a recent incident involving the “misuse of a diabetes testing kit” that was found by one of its students.

In a statement provided to The Courier-Mail, Redeemer Lutheran College said: “The health and safety of our students is of utmost importance to the College.

“As soon (as) we became aware of the incident, we sought specialist medical advice which has confirmed that the risk to students is very low.

“The College has contacted the families of the students who were affected, to provide the medical advice and offer our support.”

A Queensland Police spokesman said Logan Police had not received any complaints in relation to the incident.

“Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact police or report anonymously via Crime Stoppers,” a spokesman said.

Independent Schools Queensland has been contacted for comment.
