The family of a baby boy who died at a Brisbane daycare have revealed a second family tragedy as they come to terms with the death of their one-year-old son.

The family of a baby boy who died at a Brisbane daycare have revealed more heartbreak as they come to terms with the tragic loss of the one-year-old.

Riley Ma died while at daycare at Wakerley on September 2 with emergency services unable to revive him but to make matters worse for the family, his grandma is battling the most advanced stage of cancer.

The community has rallied behind the family since the tragedy, with a GoFundMe page raising more than $20,000 in four days and also revealing the extent of their struggles since Riley’s death.

“We are heartbroken by the sudden loss of one-years-old baby Riley Ma, who passed away unexpectedly at a family daycare in Wakerley, Brisbane,” Yang Zhao, who organised the page, said.

“His mother is struggling to cope with the devastating loss of her only son while preparing to tell her own mother, who is battling stage (four) cancer.

“Riley’s parents, our dear friends, are devastated as they navigate this unimaginable pain.

“They are my close friends and neighbours.”

Mr Zhao said the page was created to help the family cope with several things, including legal support as they “seek for the truth”.

“The fund from all the kind people will be used for Riley’s funeral costs, legal support, the seek for the truth and mental health consultation to help Riley’s family recover from the huge tragedy and hopefully they could move on gradually,” he said.

“Every contribution, no matter how small, will make a difference during this difficult time.

“Let’s come together and help Riley’s family in their time of need. Thank you for your kindness and support.”

Mr Zhao has since posted updates on the page saying Riley’s grandparents had arrived in Australia and the family passed on their “deep appreciation” to everyone who had donated.
