Fresh details have emerged about the death of a man in a horror bus incident in the Bowen Basin over the Christmas period.

A Queensland police spokesman said a 62-year-old Brisbane man died at the scene in a “sudden and non-suspicious” manner.

“Preliminary investigations indicate the man was struck by the bus around 6.55pm,” the spokesman said.

“He was declared deceased at the scene.”

The spokesman said the man was the bus driver and there were no passengers on the bus at the time of the incident.

“Forensic Crash Unit investigations are continuing and their report will be submitted to the Coroner when complete,” the spokesman said.

The horror death in the Bowen Basin has “completely devastated and distressed” co-workers, who are reeling from the tragedy.

Emergency services were called to the Leichhardt Accommodation Village in Moranbah on December 30.

Workplace Health and Safety is also investigating the incident.

The vehicle was one of a dozen Emerald Coaches/Kinetic Co branded coaches and buses on site.

Kinetic Co CEO Adam Begg said the company was supporting authorities in their investigations.

“On behalf of the entire team at Kinetic, we are completely devastated and distressed by the tragedy that occurred last night,” Mr Begg said.

“Our deepest sympathies go out to our team member’s family.

“We are doing everything we can to support relevant authorities in investigating the cause of this incident.

“We thank emergency services for their support and our thoughts are with our colleagues and everyone affected by this tragedy.”

It is understood the man was declared dead shortly after police officers arrived at the village.

A sheet was draped over the rear of the bus as first responders waited for a tow truck to arrive on scene.

“We have an idea of how (the death has) happened but obviously we need to conduct an investigation into the circumstances,” Constable McIntyre said.

It is understood the National Heavy Vehicle Register has also been notified of the incident.
