All that glitters will be on the Gold Coast over the next fortnight in a festival of fashion, fun and thoroughbreds.
And in what promises to be a bumper start to The Star Gold Coast Magic Millions this Saturday, singer Daryl Braithwaite will perform live at the new Magic Millions Gold twilight race meet at Aquis Park.
He will be joined off the track by carnival ambassadors Mike Tindall and Nicole Slater who will host the first ever Magic Millions Gold Karaoke competition.
“It’s the brainchild of Katie Page, as are so many of the innovations that come about with Magic Millions,” Slater said of the karaoke initiative.
“Katie knows one of our favourite ambassador group bonding activities on the Gold Coast is a good karaoke session, so it has now materialised as an addition to all the colour and excitement of the new Magic Millions Gold meet – horse racing at night, gold themed, karaoke – what more could you ask for?
“Mike Tindall is a fellow ambassador and equally enthusiastic karaoke fan, so we will be helping with the judging and being part of the fun on the night.
“I’ll be chatting to Mike about a duet I think – I am confident we could try our hand at Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper with Shallow or maybe there will be a Dolly and Kenny moment. Stay tuned.”
Organisers have struck gold with Braithwaite, whose evening performance of hit song The Horses is sure to be a highlight.
“I can’t wait to be part of the inaugural Magic Millions Gold,” he said.
“Looking forward to seeing everyone trackside, what a great way to kick off 2025.”
Fine weather is expected for the $6m raceday on Saturday, which will feature the first running of the $3m TAB Magic Millions Sunlight slot race under lights.
Magic Millions head stylist Kimberly Gardner said the gold-themed event would see iridescent metallics and top to toe sequins weaved into the fashion.
“This racing season’s most dazzling meeting ensures you’ll hit all your glamour goals,” she said.
“For a more cocktail vibe incorporate ruffles, ribbons and rosettes. Labels to keep in mind for a fun evening at the track are Rebecca Vallance (David Jones); Scanlan and Theodore and Tory Burch.”
The Star Gold Coast Magic Millions runs until January 14.
