Pop superstar Katy Perry gave Robert Irwin a crash course in dance during a visit to Australia Zoo last week, sharing a playful moment as the young conservationist prepares to make his debut on the US version of Dancing with the Stars.
Perry, who was in Brisbane for the Queensland leg of her Lifetimes Tour, stopped by the iconic wildlife park on Monday, June 16.
In a series of photos and a video posted a week later, the singer can be seen cuddling a koala, walking a wombat, and feeding a wallaby and giraffe.
But it was the clip of Perry and Irwin waltzing across the zoo grounds that captured the most attention.
“I heard that Robert Irwin was going to be on Dancing with the Stars, so I thought maybe we should do a practice round here at Australia Zoo,” Perry said to the camera before grabbing Irwin and launching into a twirl.
Humming the tune of “The Blue Danube,” the pair spun across the floor before finishing the routine with a flourish — Perry posed dramatically on the ground, while Irwin gave a thumbs-up to the camera.
The duo later posed for a photo together amid the greenery of Australia Zoo.
In April, Robert Irwin — son of the late “Crocodile Hunter” Steve Irwin — was unveiled as the first celebrity contestant for the upcoming US season of Dancing with the Stars.
At 21, he’s set to follow in the footsteps of his sister Bindi, who won the mirrorball trophy on the very same show in 2015 alongside pro partner Derek Hough.
