Jetstar unveils Cebu in the Philippines as new destination for Brisbane flights

Brisbane travellers can now fly to more international destinations than ever before as Jetstar launches cheap fares to an exotic Asian paradise.

Brisbane Airport now boasts more international destinations than ever before with the launch of new flights to the tropical Asian paradise of Cebu.

Starting in December, Jetstar will fly from Brisbane to Cebu, an island province in the Philippines and a rich melting pot of Spanish colonial culture, sparkling beaches and misty mountain waterfalls.

It is one of two new routes for the airline linking Australia to the Philippines, with Perth-Manila services to start in November.

Cebu shapes as a dream destination for Queenslanders looking for an Asian getaway that isn’t Bali, while the province could also become an important money spinner for our tourism industry.

Cebu’s main airport is the second busiest in the Philippines and the region has a high standard of living and a burgeoning middle class population.

To mark the start of the new route, Jetstar is launching a massive sales blitz, with fares starting from $188 one way.

It’s also a milestone moment for Brisbane Airport as Cebu becomes the transport hub’s 34th direct international destination – surpassing the previous record of 33.

Jetstar Group CEO Stephanie Tully said the new routes were a significant step for the airline’s growth.

“The launch of low fares direct flights to the Philippines is an exciting milestone, unlocking two amazing destinations for Aussie travellers,” she said.

“From the pristine beaches of Cebu to the vibrant energy of Manila, these new routes offer greater value options for an overseas holiday.

“As demand for low-cost international travel continues to grow, our pipeline of new aircraft is helping us deliver even more low fares to new destinations – so our customers can take off more, for less.”

The flights will run on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, starting December 3.

Brisbane Airport CEO Gert-Jan de Graaff said the new route was sure to be an irresistible temptation for Queensland travellers.

“We know Queenslanders love to experience new destinations and Cebu will deliver in spades with gorgeous islands and people, rich Spanish colonial history, and vibrant street food culture, it is a tropical getaway waiting to be discovered,” he said.

“It also strengthens important ties for Queensland’s large Filipino community, making it easier to connect with family, while boosting trade and business between two regions.

“This new route marks Brisbane Airport’s 34th direct international connection, which is the most ever, continuing our commitment to expanding travel opportunities and bringing the world closer to Queensland.”

The start of flights on Malaysia Airlines to Kuala Lumpur in November will be Brisbane’s 33rd international destination and Mr de Graaff said BNE would not be content to sit on its heels, particularly with the facility in the midst of a decade-long multibillion-dollar redevelopment.

“We’re always on the lookout for new destinations to connect Brisbane to the world, so watch this space,” he said.
