Queensland’s landmark Jack’s Law is set to go international, with the parents of slain teen Jack Beasley heading to London to meet with UK politicians and Scotland Yard.

Brett and Belinda Beasley have revealed the milestone move after the expansion of Jack’s Law in Queensland, allowing police to scan people for knives and other weapons in all public places using metal detectors.

It also follows the adoption of Jack’s Law legislation by other states including NSW, Western Australia, Tasmania and the Northern Territory.

The law was named in memory of 17-year-old Jack, who was fatally stabbed outside a Surfers Paradise supermarket in December 2019.

It has led to more than 50,000 people being scanned or “wanded” in Queensland, 1300 weapons being taken off the street and more than 2200 charges laid.

Mr Beasley told 4BC on Monday that he and his wife were heading to the UK in November, along with Queensland police, to discuss the possible expansion of Jack’s Law there with British parliamentarians.

“They really want to talk to us over there in England about Jack’s Law and about our story,” he told breakfast presenter Peter Fegan.

“We’re super proud of this and Jack’s Law is just so important. We’re on a plane and we’re heading over there – let’s hope we can push Jack’s Law through the UK.”

Mr Beasley said they would also be meeting with Scotland Yard.

“It’s going to be a tough five days while we’re over there but hopefully we can sell Jack’s Law and tell our story,” he said.

“As we all know, the knife violence over there (in the UK) is out of control and we hope to play a part in keeping the community safe.”
