A director of a hospitality company behind a string of popular Queensland venues has faced court over an alleged assault of a woman at one of their Brisbane pubs.

A director of a hospitality company behind a string of popular Queensland venues has faced court over an alleged assault of a woman at one of their Brisbane pubs.

Clayton Jon Williams, 51, is charged with common assault and commit public nuisance in the vicinity of a licensed premises.

Williams is a director of RawGROUP Hospitality, the company behind venues Madame Wu, Beach House Bar & Grill and the Duporth Tavern.

According to court documents police allege Williams assaulted a woman at the Stock Exchange Hotel just after 10pm on October 17.

Police allege he committed a public nuisance a few minutes later in the vicinity of the Victory Hotel, which sits across the road.

Williams was charged on November 8 by an officer from the Brisbane Liquor Unit.

A police spokeswoman said the woman was in her 20s.

Williams appeared briefly in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday.

His lawyer Luke Ingham-Myers said the charges had been referred for case management with the support of prosecution but it would ultimately be up to the woman.

“I understand the complainant‘s undergoing some counselling at the moment so we’d be seeking … something like three months for an adjournment,” he said.

The matter was adjourned to May 12.

Williams remains on bail.

RawGROUP took over management of the Stock Exchange Hotel in early 2021 after its shock closure in 2020.
