Hervey Bay woman’s car ‘sparkler-bombed’ after months of strange calls

A Qld woman is ‘terrified’ she is being stalked by someone from her past after months of menacing phone calls culminated in somebody ‘sparkler bombing’ her car in the middle of the night.

A Hervey Bay mum is living in fear after her car was set on fire by multiple sparkler bombs in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The terrifying attack came after months of chilling phone calls - up to 40 a night - where she said sometimes she could hear a man but mostly news reports about stabbings were played into her ear.

Teegan Walker, 28, lives with her mother and three-year-old son in a Scarness rental, which was the site of the firebombing.

“My sister heard someone driving past in a really loud car and throwing stuff at the house,” Ms Walker said, recounting the events of Saturday night.

“We woke up to explosions.

“We came out and the car was already on fire and the fireys were already here.”

She found her Ford Falcon station wagon completely burnt out after being set alight by sparkler bombs that had been thrown into its centre console, passenger seat and boot.

“Once that all blew up, it was the end of the car.”

The car had a central locking problem where one door could not be locked, making it as an easy target.

A ball wrapped in duct tape was also found in the alleyway beside her home, which Ms Walker said detectives thought could have been the casing for another sparkler bomb.

The family are now “terrified” that someone from their past is watching them, particularly in light of the menacing phone calls.

“Since November, I’ve been getting 40 phone calls a night,” Ms Walker said.

“It would stop for a couple of weeks and then it would start up again.

“Sometimes I can hear a male clearing his throat, but other times it’s a news recording saying ‘someone was stabbed’ over and over again.

“Why would they call me and play recordings of stabbings?

“And then to do this to my car, I’m even more terrified now.”

With ongoing health problems, having a car is something the young family desperately needs.

“I need the car to get to doctor’s appointments,” Ms Walker said.

“My son is also in the process of a diagnosis which has a lot of appointments as well which we can’t get to now.”

Cameras have been installed on the home’s exterior for better security, while police are continuing to investigate the incident.

A GoFundMe has been set up for the Walker family to help raise funds for a new car, pram, and booster seat.
