An Everton Park home has gone up in flames, with three fire crews working to extinguish the fire on Monday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to a South Pine Road address at approximately 2.05pm following reports of a fire at what is believed to be an abandoned property.

A witness described the scene as “really bad”.

A Queensland Fire Department spokesman confirmed there was no risk to the surrounding properties.

Paramedics attended the scene, with no injuries reported.

Enoggera Fire Station Officer Antony Flint said large plumes of smoke could be seen billowing from the building and it was well engulfed on arrival.

“There was a large plume of smoke that could be seen from a number of kilometres away,” Station Officer Flint said.

“We had flames evacuating from the house from all four sides, so it was well involved to the point it was too dangerous for me to put crews inside.”

Station Office Flint said crews were able to contain the fire to the dwelling.

“We had up to six crews externally attacking the fire,” he said.

“We were able to suppress the fire and knock it out quite quickly.

“From all reports from neighbours and locals, it is an abandoned house, but a final search has not been conducted.”

Neighbour Max Velic said he could see smoke billowing from the property across the road.

“I could see the smoke billowing out from the bushes from my window, so I came out and had a look,” he said.

“You could see the flames reaching really high, there was one guy trying to help people and get people away from it.

“It was a good thing he did because there was lots of pops and bangs coming from the house.

“It sounded like there were quite a few explosions.”

Mr Velic said one of his neighbours got his hose out to defend his home.

“The neighbour across the road he was out with his hose protecting his property,” he said.

“I guess it was pretty fortunate the wind was going in the direction it was.”

Neighbour Elena Sgorlon said she came outside after hearing popping sounds.

“I thought it was an interesting sound so I came out to have a look and saw the house on fire,” she said.

“There was activity in the street and in the yard of the neighbour across the road.

“I could hear the sirens down the road and then the fire brigade arrived and put it out.”

Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.
