The election commitment to be announced by Federal Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Minister Julie Collins on Wednesday, will sponsor Beef Week 2027 in Rockhampton.

The agricultural event held in Queensland every three years showcases Australia’s beef industry connects farmers, suppliers, and consumers while celebrating the cultural and economic importance of beef, generated $94.5m last year.

Ms Collins said the federal funding showed unprecedented support towards beef week and regional Australia.

“Beef Australia is the biggest event on the beef industry calendar, and every time it’s held the industry benefits through new ideas, engagement, and trade opportunities,” she said.

“Our government was a key sponsor for Beef2024 and for Beef2027 we’re now committing an unprecedented level of support.

“Australian beef exports are set to rise even further with more demand from trading partners such as the US, China, Japan and the Middle East.”

Labor candidate for Capricornia Emily Mawson said the beef industry and beef week was synonymous with Rockhampton.

“Not only does it bring thousands of visitors to the region boosting economic activity and providing an important uplift to local business, but it also recognises the critical role agriculture and the beef industry has played and continues to play delivering local jobs,” she said.
