Car crash in Booval leads to exclusions zone, emergency declaration

An exclusion zone put in place after a two-vehicle crash west of Brisbane Monday morning has been revoked.

Emergency services rushed to the crash scene, near the intersection of Clifton Street and Alexandra Street, at Booval, Ipswich about 11.30am Monday.

One of the cars struck a high-pressure gas main and police made an emergency declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA) in relation to the gas leak - establishing an exclusion zone around the area with boundaries encompassing Alexandra Street, Clifton Street, Bergin Street and Dudleigh Street.

Members of the public were urged to avoid the area and residents in the exclusion zone were told to remain inside with all their windows and doors closed.

Police revoked the emergency declaration around five hours after the gas leak, with a Queensland Fire Department crew remaining on scene at 4.40pm.

One person involved in the crash was taken to Ipswich Hospital in a stable condition.
