Billionaire and political player Clive Palmer has been rushed to hospital with Covid-19-like symptoms after falling ill at his Gold Coast home.
Multiple ambulance crews attended the Paradise Point home of Mr Palmer – a vocal opponent of coronavirus vaccine mandates through his United Australia Party – and transported him to Pindara Private Hospital.
Residents in the street say Mr Palmer walked out to the ambulance.
The Courier-Mail understands his wife Anna Palmer has tested positive for coronavirus but Mr Palmer has not yet.
Mr Palmer walked out of the hospital wearing a mask several hours later.
It was unclear whether he had received the result of his test.
Earlier this week Mr Palmer cancelled an appearance at the National Press Club in Canberra due to the symptoms.
“He is getting a Covid test,” he said.
Mr Palmer, who is not vaccinated, has been a vocal opponent of vaccine mandates and has repeatedly questioned their safety and effectiveness.
Just weeks ago the United Australia Party boss said he had no plans to get vaccinated.
“Of course I won’t,” he said.
“Many of the press have reported that we are an anti-vax party, but we’re not.
“We’re for vaccines, but vaccines that have been through tried-and-tested systems of approval in Australia, which normally takes seven to eight years.”
Ads for his election campaign have also criticised vaccination mandates for the Queensland Police Service.
