A Catholic school north of Brisbane has stood down a male teacher after he was charged by police over child exploitation material allegedly found on a number of devices.
The teacher, Christopher Inglis, 30, of Burpengary East, was confirmed to have been employed at St Peter’s Catholic Primary School in Caboolture and was charged by police on April 12 after he allegedly filmed people in a public bathroom over multiple months last year.
The Courier-Mail previously reported detectives from Argos and the Redcliffe Child Protection Investigation Unit executed a search warrant at a Burpengary East home on April 12, where they seized several digital devices and arrested Inglis.
The devices were forensically examined, and police allegedly located child exploitation material that had been downloaded, and multiple video recordings of people in a public bathroom.
Police will allege Inglis filmed people without their knowledge in public toilets in a shopping centre in Morayfield on multiple occasions from July to December, 2024.
He was charged with three counts of possessing or controlling child abuse material obtained or accessed using a carriage service, and one count each of using a carriage service to access child abuse material, and observations or recordings in breach of privacy.
His last recorded role at the school was acting assistant principal.
A letter from the school had been emailed to parents and caregivers on Tuesday, confirming Inglis would not be returning after he had allegedly been “charged with criminal offences over the holiday break”.
“This staff member has been suspended from duties. This is now a matter for Queensland police and part of an ongoing investigation,” the letter read.
“The police have clarified that these charges are not related to the staff member’s work at the school, and we appreciate the police keeping us updated.
“The staff member will not be returning to the school and will not have any contact with the school while this matter is ongoing.”
Inglis appeared at the Caboolture Magistrates Court on April 17.
