Bindi Irwin has thanked family and friends for their overwhelming support on social media after she was rushed to a hospital in Las Vegas for emergency surgery on Saturday.
The 26-year-old went under the knife after her appendix ruptured, her brother, Robert Irwin, confirmed.
The Irwin family were in Las Vegas to attend her late father Steve Irwin’s annual gala.
Posting to Instagram on Tuesday morning, Irwin said she had to “seek help” the day of the gala after months of enduring a “grumbly appendix”.
The Instagram post contained a video of Irwin still recovering in Lenox Hill Hospital, where she explained she had her appendix and 14 lesions removed after having 37 endometriosis lesions and a cyst removed two years ago.
“I am so thankful that I got the help I needed with Dr Seckin and Dr Chu at Lenox Hill Hospital. After many months of a grumbly appendix, I finally had to seek help on the day of our Steve Irwin Gala,” she wrote in the post’s caption.
“After consulting with Dr Seckin, we agreed that if I flew to New York, he could also check for endometriosis again. Surgery was a success.
“I also had a repair to a large hernia I acquired through childbirth four years ago. Thankfully, I am on the road to recovery.”
Irwin thanked her family, including husband Chandler Powell and daughter Grace and friends and said she appreciated all the kind messages she had received over the last few days.
“I appreciate all the kind messages I’ve received and the support for our Gala in Las Vegas. Credit to Robert for hosting the evening, he did such an incredible job raising funds and awareness for Wildlife Warriors. And thanks to my family for always being there for me,” the caption continued.
“I have so much love for dear Chandler and sweet Grace. Thank you to Mum for being there with me every step of the way. And rest assured, I’ll see you at the next Steve Irwin Gala in Brisbane this November. One day at a time. Time to heal now. Sending my love to you all.”
Her Instagram post soared to more than 100,000 likes within 40 minutes of publishing.
