Adjacent, walls of glass allow for stunning views from the inside while the clear, pale blue tiles make the water look pristine. Harbour Room, Swains Crossing Road, Victor Harbor

The pool itself is 15m long and heated, while the pavilion surrounding it has soaring ceilings supported by ornate pillars, towering windows and feature staircases offering multiple access points around the house. Lake Energy, Lomond Circuit, Mawson Lakes

Pools are great, but let’s face it, the maintenance can be a little off-putting for some. That’s not the case with this stunning Mawson Lakes number, with its online listing describing it as a “fenced self-cleaning heated mineral pool with mood-lit LED waterfall feature, sun deck, and lakeside backdrop.” There’s not a single part of that, that doesn’t sound idyllic. This pool really is for those that want to wow their guests while entertaining and it flows perfectly out from that stunning rear alfresco area. It’s the piece de resistance in an incredible home.

Surrounded by timber decking and screening, an overhead retractable pergola adds an industrial element and allows the pool to be used in any weather. Pull up a pew, which is built into the pool, and sip on a cold bevy without even leaving the water – then when you’re done, dry off under the Bali hut. The house also has an outdoor kitchen and covered entertainment area so there is plenty of space to host large groups of guests for summer splash bashes.

Afternoon Zephyr, Gawler East

A large sloping block created the opportunity for a cascading, infinity edge lap pool that is more than 9m long, and spa combination. The result is outstanding, particularly with its light and dark tetris-like tiling pattern. The property’s size allowed for a long, high performance lap pool to sit alongside the 1900s bungalow, and at night it is transformed into an oasis by the stunning lighting.

The details are immaculate: a streamlined pool level to the paving, a series of shallow steps for ease of access, and a square spa just above the water level that is sheltered by a pergola making it usable in any weather, at any time of the year. It won 2020 gold winner of the Lap Pool – Concrete category, at both the state and national SPASA pool awards, for pool designer/builder Elite Pools and Landscapes

Black and White, Alpha St, Kensington Park

The contrast of a black cube sitting within a pristine white tiled pool is a sleek, clean contemporary look that gives you backyard envy. This pool and spa design, by Mermaid Pool Constructions, won the gold for Pool and Spa Combination – Concrete category at SPASA’s national awards and is framed by a series of steel arms and surrounded by large format paving. Due to the lay of the land, the pool was built primarily out of the ground which makes the spa’s black cube stand out as the focal feature.
