Australia's 100 Cool Pools – Behind the Scenes

A renovated pool has been ranked as one of the coolest in Australia after hitting the market in a Queensland property that’s priced at offers over $6m.

The renovation project undertaken on a whim on the Sunshine Coast hit the Top 10 of Australia’s 100 Cool Pools list, mixing it with some of the most amazing designs around.

Owners Nigel and Rozina Vibert were surprised to hear that their upgraded infinity pool made the cut, but said the location at 31 Pacific Heights Court, Coolum Beach, still took their own breaths away most days.

“We’re very lucky that the view is so amazing. Sometimes you forget and you’ve got to pinch yourself to realise where you are and what you’ve got. The beauty of it is from that level you see the pool and look over the coast.”

Australia’s 100 Cool Pools was a special feature released with this weekend’s launch of The Courier-Mail’s newAt Home magazine.

Perched on the hillside, the pool has panoramic views across the Sunshine Coast, from the ocean to beaches and surrounding countryside, with windows under the waterline facing the beach to take in the views while doing laps.

Their real estate agent Craig Morrison said potential buyers inspecting the property were always wowed by the view over the pool.

“The most impressive thing about this pool is it’s one of those infinity edges where it looks like you’re floating in the sky, but the feedback from potential buyers is the view from the pool is amazing. It’s not often you get a pool that seems to be hanging off a cliff.”

The owners were upgrading the house when they discovered that the structure would allow them to also renovate the pool.

Mr Vibert said they’d never considered a pool renovation until they discovered it would be possible while they were undertaking another home upgrade.

”We pulled the tiles up on the deck area and we realised that we could actually extend the pool and add sunbeds in the shallow and add a spa. With the concrete structure (of the property) we were able to add a few more things in.”

His favourite thing was to look out over the pool zone and see the colours change throughout the day.

“It changes colours with the sky and the sea changes colours (through the day). I can’t put it into words, it’s just amazing. It’s one of those things where you see the picture and it’s nice, but it’s even better when you’re here.”
