A prisoner’s nearly week-long freedom foray has come to an end, with cops arresting him “without incident” in the heart of the Red Centre capital.
Farren Schaber, 28, was arrested on Thursday afternoon on Todd St in Alice Springs.
Police said he was arrested “without incident” and has since been charged with escaping lawful custody.
He is due to appear in Alice Springs Local Court on Friday.
He’s alleged to have escaped from his work detail at the Olive Pink Botanical Gardens in Alice Springs at 11.45am on March 6.
Police were notified of the escape about an hour later, and were actively searching for him since.
Police originally did not provide Schaber’s name to the media, however, it was released by them late Wednesday afternoon.
Schaber was sentenced to four years in prison in the Alice Springs Supreme Court on July 11, 2022.
He pleaded guilty to three counts of arson, and was given a non parole period of two years.
He became eligible for parole in June 2023, and on February 6 this year he was back before the courts in Alice Spring where his parole was revoked.
Just under a month later, he’s alleged to have escaped from custody.
On Wednesday, NT Police confirmed to this masthead the prisoner still hadn’t been found.
“Police are following up several lines of inquiry to locate him. He is urged to return himself into custody as soon as possible,” a spokesperson said.
Police said they “do not believe he is a risk to the public” but still told the public not to approach him.
He was last seen wearing a yellow and blue shirt and green coloured pants, according to police.
