From Martin Scorsese kissing the Pope to a unique view of our planet, we take a look at this week’s best images.
British amateur photographer Nima Sarikhani’s photo of a napping polar bear fast asleep up on an iceberg won this year’s Wildlife Photographer of the Year People’s Choice Award. Nima snapped the sleepy giant off Norway’s Svalbard archipelago. It took three days for the snapper to get the perfect shot after searching through deep fog to find polar bears.
“It turned and headed to where there was still some sea ice. Here we encountered a younger and an older male (polar bear) and watched the pair over the following eight hours,” he said.“Just before midnight, the young male clambered onto a small iceberg and, using his strong paws, clawed away at it to carve out a bed for himself.”
