Pakington St, Newtown: Trio hospitalised after car crash

A “terrible” three-car crash has left at least three injured on the corner of Pakington and Aberdeen streets in Newtown.

A “terrible” three-car pile-up on the corner of Pakington and Aberdeen streets in Newtown has left at least three people injured.

Police, ambulance, SES, and a fire truck were all at the scene of the collision, which happened just before 3.10pm on Monday.

Local resident Noel Murphy said the crash happened “right at school pick-up time,” just across from the St John’s Lutheran school campus.

“There’s a bronze Holden ute with damage to the rear, and someone was carried off in a stretcher,” he said.

Mr Murphy said it appeared the ute, a blue Mercedes and a small white sedan had all collided in a chain reaction.

Police were seen interviewing witnesses as ambulances departed the scene about 4.00pm

Another witness said one of the drivers involved was waiting for a relative to take his dog home before taking himself to hospital, while a passenger in the white car was described as being “in a really bad way”.

After arriving on scene within five minutes, FRV “crews assisted with the extraction of one patient from a vehicle before they were treated by Ambulance Victoria,” a spokesman said.

A spokesman from Ambulance Victoria said three people were taken to Geelong hospital for treatment.
