Peter Goers: All this would be funny if it wasn’t so damaging to the vast majority of people

There is no convincing the most stupid anti-vaxxers but why should we suffer their “freedom” as they infect others with disease and insanity, asks Peter Goers.

Be double jabbed or stay home. Let’s mandate vaccination. Let’s punish the unvaccinated. We’ve tried every kind of carrot, now it’s time for the stick. It’s working. More and more businesses and organisations are wisely insisting on mandatory vaccination and its the only way to go. Get used to it. Hosanna in the highest.

We’re opening up SA from this Tuesday and we face a predicted onslaught of infection and even deaths.

Our state government is doing this for business yet business leaders are wisely calling for mandatory vaccination and the government will not grasp that nettle because governments are in the thrall of right wingers who virulently oppose mandatory vaccination. Who wins?

The business of SA should be vaccination. Through good governance, SA has dodged the worst of Covid and lockdowns. Maybe because of that we are behind the game in terms of vaccination. If and when vaccination is completely mandatory and the dreaded unvaxxed can’t shop, play, mix and work, the waverers will soon fall in line and bare their arms for the good oil of the vax.

We can only excuse those with legitimate medical exemptions.

There is no convincing the most stupid anti-vaxxers and we can leave them to their own selfish “freedom”. But they still put us all at risk. They don’t care about anyone except themselves. They believe that the Queen and the Clintons are shape-shifting lizard pedophiles, that Covid doesn’t really exist, that the vaccine is killing and disabling people, it changes our DNA, makes you infertile, injects a microchip into you so Bill Gates can control you, it makes you gay and the vaccine has been developed much too quickly and the anti-vaxxers believe in their own magic immunity.. These are the anti-vaxxers facts.

They ignore the fact that if they hadn’t already been comprehensively and compulsorily vaccinated against lots of diseases they’d either be dead or disabled and vomiting through their noses from tetanus. Ah, but it’s only the Covid vax they oppose.

They are endangering all of us and must be censured. They deny reason, social justice, science and sense. They blame everything on the media which, apparently, is suppressing news of mass death from the Covid vaccine. All this would be funny if it wasn’t so damaging to the vast majority of people doing the right thing and trying to beat this universal curse. We are all tired of QR codes and masks but we are alive and helping one another.

People are fearful. Confusion reigns. Come Tuesday there are 30 different regimes for Covid exposure. Vaccination is and will be mandatory for those working with the aged and children. This will be more generally extended. Your quality of life will suffer if you are unvaccinated. You will be restricted and shunned..

Can we please have clearer information. The MyGov app will not accept my current driver’s licence and I needed help. First I needed help to find the helpline. I rang one Covid helpline on 1800 653 809 and I was sent to another helpline on 132 307 where I was sent back to 1800 653 809 then to three other helpline numbers with nice people all over the country unable to help. Finally a colleague helped me.

Meanwhile the unvaccinated are coming to SA and the unvaccinated are another, worse pandemic. Vaccination does not stop infection but it does save your life. The stubborn, selfish stupidity of the unvaxxed puts us all at risk of infection.

Perhaps we should all move to the more highly regulated WA and leave SA to the unvaccinated. Get vaccinated. The unvaccinated may wish to suffer and not in silence but why should we suffer them as they infect others with disease and insanity. We need freedom from them.
