Bond: The modern Left has become everything it once fought against

The modern Left doesn’t believe you should entertain, let alone agree with, views that differ from theirs – especially when it comes to ‘trad wives’, according to Caleb Bond.

Feminism has lost the plot.

Having fought for decades for women to have the freedom to choose how they live their lives, it now argues that women should do what they’re told.

Strange.

Having freed women from the shackles of having to take dictation from their fathers and husbands, feminism has now decided women must take dictation from their bosses.

Why be enslaved in the home when you could be enslaved in the workplace?

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is called progress.

Debating SA – which runs inter-school debating competitions – could not have foreseen the onslaught of bile to which it would be subjected when it decided students would argue whether “the ‘Trad Wife’ movement is good for women”.

The “trad wife movement”, for the uninitiated, is a social media phenomenon where young women post about being stay-at-home mothers and living within traditional gender norms, showing themselves looking after children, cooking and cleaning.

For daring to host a debate on the merits of such a lifestyle, a spokesman for Debating SA said the group had dealt with people “ringing up screaming, ranting, raving and carrying on” about how teenage girls would have to argue for their own subjugation.

Let’s get this out of the way first – the idea that being a stay-at-home mum or conforming to traditional gender roles is a form of subjugation is garbage.

Gender equality, it would seem, was never actually about equal opportunity – it was actually about forcing women to be good little worker bees to earn tax for the government.

By the way, despite the fact that government-funded paid parental leave is available to both mothers and fathers, 83 per cent of it is taken by women.

It’s almost like families naturally make these decisions for themselves.

Bloody misogynist women.

That many feminists look down their noses at stay-at-home mums proves they aren’t interested in women’s rights, otherwise they’d be happy for women to do whatever they wanted.

If your feminism looks different to their feminism then you’re in trouble.

Which brings us to the next thing – the Left has become everything it once opposed.

It was once anti-establishment – it fought against censorship and dogma.

It valued free thought and expression, freedom of movement and association and it believed in the right to offend and slay sacred cows.

Now the Left has captured the institutions, become the establishment and decided that to question its doctrines is a modern form of blasphemy.

I mean, do these people not understand how debates work?

The most prestigious academic institutions in the world have a rich history of debating clubs and societies – the point of which is to expand the mind, promote critical thinking and thrash out the big issues of our times.

Debating exposes you to different perspectives.

But that’s exactly the problem.

Debating SA clarified to schools the topic would focus on “stay-at-home parents”.

The modern Left doesn’t believe you should entertain, let alone agree with, views that differ from theirs.

So convinced are they of their moral superiority that it is simply not possible – and should not be possible – to think outside the bounds they have set.

To do so is to commit some kind of hate or -ism.

They understand that other points of view exist – they just don’t think they should and so they will do everything to banish them from public life.

There is no interest in inquiry, only doctrine.

It’s funny that so many of these people would tell you religion is a crock because they’ve just invented a new one.
