Andrew Bolt: Opposition’s net zero ban exposes the climate hysterics that are helping ruin Australia

Opposition leader Sussan Ley last week announced she would scrap the net zero target, immediately exposing the frauds and fools who accused the Liberals of risking more floods and fires, writes Andrew Bolt.

Getting real is working already.

Sussan Ley’s decision to scrap net zero targets is exposing the climate hysterics and liars helping to ruin this country.

This great reveal started in the very press conference on Thursday where the Opposition Leader announced the Liberals would finally junk that disastrous target of cutting Australia’s global warming emissions to net zero by 2050 – the target the Albanese government is still sticking to, no matter the cost or uselessness.

One journalist, voice rising with snark, asked Ley to imagine the climate havoc she’d supposedly let loose: “So in the coming years when Australians are counting the cost of fires and floods and other natural disasters, is your response going to be to them ‘don’t worry, we just did our share’?”

Another chimed in, seemingly puzzled that Ley could sentence her own grandchildren to this global warming hell: “You’re also a grandmother; are you also concerned about the type of planet that your grandchildren are going to inherit?”

Even supposed “experts” then parroted this mad delusion that Ley’s Liberals were kiddie killers – that little Australia’s emissions could both drown and burn Australia.

“It’s a reckless plan to torch both our climate and the economy,” declared Climate Council chief Amanda McKenzie.

“If this was enacted by a government it would mean more fires, more floods, more deadly heatwaves. It’s saying ‘to hell with our kids’ future’.”

The Climate Council should never be quoted without a mental health warning, since co-founder Tim Flannery proved two decades ago you could now say any warmist slop and still be admired in a country sadly obsessed with seeming, not achieving.

Remember Flannery falsely predicting in 2007 that “even the rains that flow will not actually fill our dams and our river systems”? That Sydney, Adelaide and Brisbane could be all out of water by – oops! – last decade?

It’s an indictment of Australia that we have so many such catastrophists, pushing net zero policies that are destroying our power system and driving heavy industry broke, but at least the Liberals’ net-zero ban is now provoking them into revealing their ignorance and deceit.

Science says that, no, our emissions won’t actually cause more floods, fires, heatwaves or even melted ice creams, because – most of all – we’re just too small.

We could scrap every power station, crush every car and put a cork in every cow and the difference to the world temperate would be, as former Chief Scientist Alan Finkel conceded to a parliamentary inquiry, “virtually nothing”.

So every journalist, activist and politician now accusing the Liberals of risking more floods and fires is shown up as a fraud or fool.

But why don’t the Liberals dare say so themselves? By arguing only about the cost of net zero, the Liberals are fighting with one arm still tied behind their back.

They still don’t dare challenge the scare itself – that Australia’s emissions cause climate catastrophes. They still don’t dare point out that no scheme to cut Australia’s emissions will make any real difference to the climate anyway.

And what a coincidence. What a brilliant chance to point out that even the Albanese government secretly knows that.

In the same week the Liberals ditched net zero, two Tiwi Islanders, Pabai Pabai and Paul Kabai, filed an appeal in the Federal Court, trying to get compensation from the Albanese government for approving “carbon bombs” like Woodside’s North West Shelf project, claiming they’d drown their islands and destroy their culture.

What is so fascinating in this try-on was the stunning defence in court documents submitted at the start of this case by the Australian Government Solicitor, admitting what the Prime Minister himself never does and even the Liberals don’t dare.

Actually, setting even tougher targets for cutting greenhouse gas emissions wouldn’t make much difference to the climate – and the Torres Strait.

The government solicitor said Australia “lacks the necessary control to prevent or materially mitigate climate change or its impacts”.

As I said in shorter words, that’s because Australia’s emissions were too small to matter much: “(Australia) contributes a very small proportion of global GHG (greenhouse gas) emissions”, so “it is not reasonably foreseeable that (Australia’s) ... emissions reductions targets would cause the Applicants and Group Members (Torres Strait Islanders) harm ...”

Hear that? Even the Albanese government’s own solicitor admits emissions cuts won’t make much difference. So which idiots could claim the Liberals will now burn down the joint?

Listen. It’s the ones now screaming fit to bust.
