Ocean Grove lands WAFL premiership player Taj Wyburd as former captain Joe McDonald returns

Ocean Grove is on a roll this off-season, with its former captain returning and a state league premiership player joining the club.

Ocean Grove’s signing spree has continued, landing WAFL player Taj Wyburd fresh off a premiership with Peel Thunder.

From Secret Harbour in WA, Wyburd, 20, has moved to Ocean Grove and will play with the Grubbers next season as they look to improve on their eighth place finish in 2024.

It continues the Grubbers’ promising off-season with the club confirming on Tuesday that former captain Joe McDonald will in 2025 after a season in the Geelong league with Newtown & Chillwell.

Fellow signing Rhys Devlin, an Ocean Grove junior, is also crossing from the Eagles after playing 18 senior games across the last three seasons.

The 174cm playmaker kicked 10 goals and averaged 13 disposals and 65 SuperCoach points in 20 league games for Fremantle’s WAFL affiliate this season, with his elite kicking and workrate his standout traits.

His best performance of the year came against South Fremantle when he booted three goals

Wyburd graduated from Thunder colts program and spent last year playing in their reserves side.
