New data has revealed that the number of electric vehicles in Queensland has tripled in less than two years, with metropolitan suburbs leading the charge.
The state government has revealed there are now 45,649 all-electric vehicles registered across Queensland — up from 12,928 in September 2022.
The CSIRO predicts households that electrify completely by 2030 will spend $30,000 less in 20 years than their neighbour who doesn’t get an electric car.
Inner Brisbane, through the 4000 postcode, has the most registered electric vehicles with 1369.
This is followed by the leafy inner-west suburbs of Kenmore, Chapel Hill and Brookfield under postcode 4069, Redbank and Collingwood Park (4301: 814 EVs), and Goodna, Springfield and Springfield Lakes (4300: 778 EVs).
Areas outside the southeast with the most EVs include Toowoomba (4350: 545 EVs), Cairns (4870: 395 EVs), Bundaberg (4670: 208 EVs), Hervey Bay (4655: 203 EVs), and Mackay (4740: 190 EVs).
An Electric Vehicle Council report from earlier this year showed the Tesla Model Y, Tesla Model 3 and BYD Atto 3 were the top three most popular model nationwide.
The state government in April last year bumped up Queensland’s EV rebate scheme from $3000 to $6000 for those buying a brand new vehicle worth up to $68,000, making it the most generous offering in the nation.
