NTFL rep team selected to take on Essendon VFL

A mixture of talented Territorians and impressive imports have been selected for the NTFL representative outfits set to take on Essendon next month. See who made the squad.

The best players from across the men’s and women’s NTFL competitions have been selected to take on the Essendon VFL and VFLW squads in the annual representative fixture.

The NTFL men’s side has gone undefeated since the return of representative footy having beaten SANFL opposition Glenelg and Woodville as well as WAFL foes South Fremantle.

The match will take place at TIO Stadium on January 24.

And against Essendon they have a chance to extend another winning run, coming out on top in all four of their previous meetings with the Victorian club.

The NT Buffaloes have plenty of talent in their ranks from last year’s Nichols medal winner Dylan Landt to former AFL players such as Steven Motlop and Jed Anderson.

There’s plenty of connections between the Territory and Essendon including likely Bombers’ players Alwyn Davey Jr and Jayden Davey.

The Men’s Selection Committee includes coach Ryan Ayres, Footscray, Brisbane Bears and Territory football legend Michael ‘Mago’ Mclean and NT football stalwart Stuart Davis.

Chairperson of selectors Chris Baksh is also in group, having coached the men’s side previously against Glenelg and Woodville.

“I look forward to working with head coach Ryan Ayres and the rest of the Selection Committee,” he said.

“I’m proud to be a part of the NTFL Representative team for 2024 and looking forward to building a side that showcases our diverse talent within the NTFL competition.”

Women’s chairperson Natasha Medbury, coach Rick Nolan, NT Academy head coach Shannon Millar and ABC commentary expert Rob Cross were tasked with selecting the Women’s squad.

There’s plenty of young up and coming players in the side including leading goal kickers Steph Lawrence and Emma Stark, as well as Tatyana Perry and Marika Carlton.

And once again there potentially will be Territory players starring in the Essendon outfit including Bella Clark and Tayla Hart-Aluni.

“It’s an honour to be named as Chairperson of selectors for the NTFL Women’s Representative Team for 2024,” Medbury said.

“I look forward to seeing the talent and skills the girls are ready to display. Along with their excitement to represent the NT on this special occasion.”

“As a NT local and long term NTFL player, I can’t wait to see the opportunities this will open for the talent we have here in the NT.”

The lists are open to change in the lead up to the match with the final team to be announced in the week leading up to the game.

Pre-sale tickets for the anticipated 2024 NTFL representative games are now on sale and can be purchased intix.com.
